There are many different types and forms of treatments for athletic and non-athletic injuries today. Some treatments are not as effective, as others. The less-effective methods often treat the symptom, but not the problem.  We specialize in treating the problem for all types of orthopedic problems including shoulder, lower back and neck pain, ankle and knee injuries, and numerous other disorders.

Taking a very personalized approach with our patient/clients offers motivation and encourages them to become actively involved in the progress of their recovery. At some time our involvement in the therapy will be over. When this occurs, the patient/clients will have an individualized therapy program that includes cardiovascular conditioning, core training and strength training at home or a fitness center. Teaching each patient how to prevent the occurrence of an injury and how to avoid becoming a permanent patient of someone, is one of our main goals.

We specialize in understanding not only where your complaints of pain and discomfort are, but also determining where they originate. Sports therapy deals with the fascia planes within our muscular structure that hold us together. This is one of several forms of sports therapy that with very specific applications can:

  • accelerate the healing process;

  • increase range of motion;

  • reduce swelling, bruising and pain;

  • reduce adhesion build-up.

  • helping to obtain better posture.

Areas of stress in other muscles, created through compensation from injury, can be eased with this medical treatment. This specific type of sports therapy can partially compensate for lack of exercise during inactivity while recovering from injuries.

Evaluation:  All patients undergo an orthopedic and bio-mechanical examinations to show their current strength, range of motion and muscular imbalances that could be the result of their injury. Also we use a program called "Posture Pro".  This program is able to show our patients through pictures and the use of the computer, what there posture actually looks like and where the increase in stress points are located.  This helps us to determine the joint's mobility, range-of-motion, strength of the now injured tissue, and imbalance or rotations.  Now an estimated timeline will be set for recovery.  Then we will explain what is wrong, discuss how the injury occurred, and determine what will be necessary to deter this type of injury from happening again.

Rehabilitation:  A variety of treatments may be used to create better balance, increased blood flow, increased joint mobility and greater strength and flexibility. Therapeutic exercise, PNF stretching techniques, some cardiovascular training and resistance training will almost always be part of the recovery process. Ice and heat will accompany some, if not all, of the treatments listed.

Athletic Enhancement: Most people that begin treatment is usually because of an injury that is hampering their physical activity.  But some of these injuries or pains that slows us down, or stops us altogether could be avoided.  The chief cause of injuries is simple muscle tightening and increased resistance.  Reflexes, power, coordination, endurance and safely are diminished as well.  Therefore you become slower and have a decrease in strength.  When the body is in synchronization, each muscle group is receiving a fair share of the work load.  When out of synchronization, overload and overstress is placed upon areas unaccustomed to them.  Here is the potential for injury to set itself up.

Every athlete is aware of the external resistance factors such as wind resistance, hills, soft ground, etc.  Clothing and equipment is designed to reduce resistance.  Jockeys or cyclists bend low to reduce resistance.  Swimmers even go so far as to shave body hair to reduce resistance.  But nobody seems to give much thought to the internal resistance that is constantly costing athletes more in lost performance and in the establishment of strain type injuries than is realized: "muscle resistance". Reduced performance levels, premature fading, and the athletic slump can all be ascribed to resistance.

Education:  Understanding what has happened to you and how your body is going to recovery is something we take great pride in. The more you understand, the more you will see the importance of the specific guidelines we will prescribe for you during and after your therapy. The goal is to get you back to your prior level of activity, or well beyond your expectations.
